At the ARLGP, we are continuing to support post-hurricane relief efforts with rescue partners in southern states and Puerto Rico. On Monday, October 30th, we will be welcoming approximately 40 dogs from Puerto Rico rescue groups and shelters. They will arrive via private charter plane to MAC Air Group in South Portland. As an emergency placement partner with HSUS, this life-saving rescue mission is one of many the HSUS team has coordinated on the ground in Puerto Rico since the devastation of hurricanes Irma and Maria.
As a safety net for pets in need locally and nationally, we are proud to welcome these dogs to our life-saving organization. Our first commitment is always to local pets but when we have capacity to help, we will provide shelter to any animal in need.
Our team of staff and volunteers will welcome and offload the plane around 10pm Monday and return to the ARLGP, where they will receive treatment and care before departing to foster homes for dedicated R&R. Their individual medical needs, and quarantine requirements will determine their adoption dates. We will keep interested adopters informed on availability after our veterinary team assesses their needs. It’s important to note that these are pets that were currently residing in shelters and foster-based rescues awaiting transport to stateside shelters for rehoming.
How can you help?
Contributions made to our annual Holiday Gift Drive will support our ongoing efforts to help pets in need locally and nationally. Our hurricane response will continue throughout the fall, as we begin to fully understand the burden placed on shelters in the hurricane-impacted areas. Support our Holiday Gift Drive today >
