Every year we countdown 12 very special adoptions through our 12 Saves of Christmas series. Check in each day as we get closer to announcing our #1 on Christmas day.
In April, four ARLGP team members traveled to Puerto Rico to assist with on-the-ground rescue work with our partner, All Sato Rescue. What they experienced in those 5 days was life changing. They visited sanctuaries, shelters and dumping sites to see what life for pets on the island was like. In just one day, our team physically rescued 14 dogs off the streets and beaches. Those three moms and their puppies eventually made their way to the ARLGP in the weeks following the trip, and have all since been adopted into new, loving homes.
We talked with the adopters of two of the mama dogs, Beatrice and Anna, recently to see how life was for these sweet gals since our team rescued them.
ANNA (now Tilly)
Tilly’s family saw her photo on our website one evening and was determined to adopt, even arriving at 4am on adoption day to be the first to meet her! Since adoption day she’s bonded with her new family and canine brother, and has traveled the country—from PR to Maine, Colorado to Florida – Tilly is living the life with her new family:
“Tilly has been able to enjoy snow for the first time thanks to the early November snowfall this year! She has taken to snow with no hesitation, even though she comes back in with clumps of snow clinging to her fully grown in feathers (must be Golden Retriever in there somewhere!).
We have always adopted our cats and dogs. We currently have two cats adopted from ARLGP, as well as Tilly. When you fall for that face and personality, it is worth so much more than words can say to know that you are providing a warm, loving home to a new family member.”
Beatrice was known by ARLGP staff as the resident snuggler. You’d enter her kennel and within seconds she’d be on your lap or squished up beside you. She couldn’t get enough love from our team. When her new mom Rose visited, Beatrice’s affection is what sealed the deal:
“When I met her, I fell in love with how affectionate she was. It was as if she accepted and loved everyone she met, which is something I adore about her. I can wholeheartedly say that Beatrice has changed my life for the better; she is like a ray of sunshine. It’s so nice to come home to such a cuddly, loving dog who I know loves me. I will forever be thankful for her.
I have had multiple staff from ARLGP tell me how special Beatrice was to them, and I am glad that she was able to brighten many people’s lives including my own. I want to say thank you to all of the people who helped take care of my beautiful Beatrice while she was at ARLGP, I am extremely grateful for everything that they did.”
It fills our hearts with happiness thinking of the new beginnings animals like Beatrice and Anna get because of the hard work of so many. Our partnerships with groups like All Sato Rescue are making such an impact in regions where it is desperately needed. We thank the adopters for supporting this important work and opening their homes for pets in need of a new beginning.
