Every year we countdown 12 very special adoption stories through our 12 Saves of Christmas series. Starting today, each day we will post a new adoption story on our website. Be sure to check in daily as we get closer to announcing our #1 on Christmas day.
This year, we’re kicking off our 12 saves with a very special story. Most of our saves capture animals who have already been adopted but this one is a little different…
If you follow us, volunteer for us, foster for us, or visit us frequently you’ve probably met Babe. Babe arrived at the ARLGP in January of 2019, with her litter mates from Puerto Rico. Upon arrival, we knew there was something about Babe that wasn’t quite right. After her veterinary exams, she was diagnosed with an acute infection that had damaged her kidneys. Our team determined that she would likely be a hospice puppy because her prognosis was so poor.
Our Executive Director, Patsy, took her home as a hospice placement. Working with Dr. Ruth Dalto at Holistic Healing for Animals in Yarmouth, the goal was to help Babe feel better for the time she was with us. Babe received acupuncture every other week, and Chinese herbs to help her feel as good as she could– for whatever time she had.
Patsy’s goals with Babe have been to give her what every other puppy needs to grow. Babe started daycare this summer to catch up on some very important social skills that she missed due to her illness. She has attended ARLGP puppy classes and basic training. She comes to work with Patsy every day and loves lounging in the administrative offices meeting new visitors and friends. She has dog friends she visits, and she absolutely adores her toys. She likes a great game of tag, hide and seek or chasing a tennis ball. She loves cats in her foster home and enjoys her time on the sofa watching golf, as well as all the Boston sports teams. She’s a huge Tom Brady fan, loves Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins, and thinks Mookie Betts is the best Red Sox player, evah.
On November 21st, 2019, Babe reached an important milestone: she celebrated her 1st birthday. She spent the day with her canine sister Buttercup playing, wrestling, and napping in the sun. Babe also reached another milestone: back to a healthy pup! We’re happy to report that Babe’s kidney function has returned to normal limits, and with a restricted diet and her continued holistic support, Babe should live a long, normal life.
For our first save of the year, we are asking for your help to find Babe a permanent home. She is looking for a family that will continue her special diet, her holistic care along with her daycare routine, playdates with her sister and her ARLGP family. We are looking to slowly transition her to a new home and family who love lounging on the sofa watching sports as much as she does.
Maybe this family is yours? If you would like to meet Babe and learn more about adopting her, feel free to email Patsy directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
