support us

Every year, the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland provides care to thousands of animals including dogs, cats, small animals and birds. Our mission is to humanely care for every adoptable animal until each is placed into a loving, caring home. We believe that all animals deserve a second chance in life.

The ARL relies on the generosity and support of surrounding communities and by people like you to continue our life-saving programs. You can help us continue to preserve the human-animal bond and promote the humane and ethical treatment of all animals.

All of us at the ARL thank you for your kind donation. Your contribution is tax deductible as provided by law.

three ways to help us provide medical care
Every year, many animals come through our doors requiring medical treatments of all types. With your help, we can provide the much needed medical care that will help sick animals return to good health...so they can find their forever home!

the general medical fund

The medical fund provides for needed medical care over and above the routine medical care that all animals receive at the Animal Refuge League including spays and neuters, vaccinations, flea, tick and worm preventatives and vet exam. Special blood tests, x-rays, ultra-sounds and surgeries are some of the extras that the general medical fund provides for. Sometimes our animals need even more than this care and that is why the next two funds were created!

the senior animals medical fund
The PAWS Fund, “Pets Are Worth Saving”, was created as a last request of Wanda Donovan, one of our beloved volunteers and friends who passed away in the March of 2006, to help animals age 7 and older that arrive at the ARL with special medical needs. “Special needs” are...

the cassandra l. carson emergency medical fund

Cassandra L. Carson tragically passed away in 2005. To honor her love of animals, this emergency medical fund was created in Cassandra's memory, to benefit animals of any age. The hope is, that with your help, this fund will go on to provide needed medical attention for emergencies: i.e. an animal hit by a car, surgery to save a limb or to save an eye, etc. Often these are the animals that would make wonderful, loving pets for a caring family if they could just get the emergency, or extra medical help they need.

planned giving

A bequest is one of the simplest ways to provide for those you care about. Once you have provided for the people
you love, you may wish to consider a bequest to the
Animal Refuge League.

Charitable bequests find a place in the wills of many who wish to lend support well into the future. A gift through your will to the Animal Refuge League will be a thoughtful way to help us continue our life-saving programs.

The Animal Refuge League provides temporary homes for nearly 4,000 animals every year. Our efforts
would not be possible without the kind support of people like you.

For less than 84 cents a day you can sponsor an animal in need. Your monthly pledge will provide a warm space and food for our guests. It takes only four cage sponsors to maintain each dog kennels and cat cage "homes".

We invite you to help us continue our quality care of abandoned, stray and homeless pets. Your contribution is tax deductible as provided by law.

Thank you to our current cage sponsors!
