Dustin
is a charming and busy mix of corgi and lab who was transferred here from
another shelter. He is young, not more than
two years old, so he still
has a bit of the young-lab-roughneck in him, plus all the corgi attributes
that corgi aficionados adore -- “They are energetic, full of life,
quick in movement and mind. They like long walks and good romps, as well
as quiet companionship. Corgis need activity, variety and stimulation or
else these thinking dogs will invent activities for themselves which can
lead to trouble. They are herding dogs, bred to be ‘in control’,
and urban corgis have been known to resort to herding the household's children
or other pets to satisfy their instinct to maintain order. They are adaptable
dogs, can be bossy, but generally get along well with all members of the
family and other animals. They like to be doing something, are quick to learn,
and eagerly approach a job that brings them praise. They should be handled
with clear, consistent commands, gentle firmness and lavish praise. They
are eager to please, anxious to comply but resent bullying, may balk at repetitive ‘drilling’ or
become apprehensive if tricked into performing. They respond much better
to encouragement, soft pats and kind words.” * Dustin can truly be
said to be a big dog in a small body, and needs gainful employment in a home
that
will offer him opportunities to use his quick mind and high energy. He’ll
be happy to accept praise as his paycheck. Because he is bossy and mouthy,
his new home should be child-free.
