Some people call me Maurice ‘cause I speak of the pompatus of love…But not for dogs, which is why Maurice is here. He is one cool dude, otherwise. Maurice is so cool, in fact, that he’s out and about charming onlookers and fans at a satellite site. A stray who was fostered out, Maurice is described as being a wonderful cat, except for the dog thing – really, no dogs –playful, friendly, affectionate, and a lap cat. He is a lover boy, hugger-back type of feline that walks tall, checks in with his people often and with affection, loves to be patted, and isn’t particularly sensitive about where he’s touched. During his time as a stray, Maurice had the misfortune of contracting Feline Immunodeficiency Virus through a deep bite or wound. This puts him into the special needs category. FIV cannot be contracted by humans, but other cats without it are liable, so Maurice would do well as an indoor cat and maybe as a companion to another FIV cat. Talk to the cat staff about FIV. The shelter has housed many of them. They go on to be adopted and live long lives with loving families. And Maurice, as has been stated, is a LOVER. To quote his French human counterpart, Maurice Chevalier, (they would have gotten along, splendidly), “If you wait for the perfect moment when all is safe and assured, it may never arrive.” Maurice is ready now. And besides, if you adopt him, he may reveal what the heck pompatus means.
